Gravity

Gravity

I had never stopped to think about the influence that gravity has on human art. Our whole life is conditioned by gravity. Because it is so dominant in our existence, we have it fully assimilated. Gravity dominates our lives.

This creates a predisposition to see a depicted object, with its normal position. If we see a figure or object in a different position than we expect, something is going on. The reader is going to ask for more information to understand what is happening and needs to understand, because things in our world rest on their lower side.

The moment I represent an element without respecting this verticality, I will be alerting the reader.

The reader is always going to tend to push the elements down. If I depict them in an unbalanced position, the reader will be able to guess a consequence in that position because of their awareness of gravity.

I can respect it or cancel it, but gravity exists in everything.
