Not being in control

Not being in control

Where to place an item? How to reinforce sensations? What makes an image work? What's that about having images?

When I start to plan a drawing, I rely on the principles of film shots. Correct plans, which show the object to be represented in a well-framed way. I do it by reflex, with a kind of autopilot that I suppose is built year after year from images already seen and assimilated. Sometimes it works, but other times it doesn't. When that happens, something goes out. I'm running out of light. I don't have theoretical tools to help me solve the problems. I go around blindly until I find something that is enough for me at that moment and that I find myself unable to overcome, not wanting to know if the choice is right or not.

As a result of watching Pepe Gimeno's course, I have realized that in an image, it is not only the object you represent that counts. The position and relationship of elements can be used to reinforce sensations. This course has finally made me aware of the enormous size of my ignorance.

Generating an image, as I did before, has totally lost its meaning for me and I see a sea of possibilities in the exploration of new forms of creation.

Drawing is fine, but what happens when you want to tell something? What things can be expressed with images? Which parts of an image have communicative capacity? What happens when you want to use the image as a language?
